This summer at Dynamic Earth, we launched an interactive science show that explores the responsible and ethical use of AI. "Unbelievably Talented" is a talent show with a twist: some of the contestants aren’t as genuinely talented as they claim, they’re getting help from AI apps. The show was awarded funding by the Arts and Humanities Research Council and is an example of how science, arts, and culture can come together to explore this interesting area.

This conference session aims to present and share the insights gained from this project. We will discuss the audience’s feedback, highlighting both the enthusiasm and the concerns that have emerged. This feedback is crucial in understanding public perception and acceptance of AI technologies.

Additionally, we will provide practical guidance and resources for other Science and Discovery Centres interested in engaging the public on AI, or mounting their own productions of this show. Participants will get the chance to experiment with the AI tools that feature in the show. We’ll talk through how they work, and challenge them to identify the differences between something created by a talented human, and something created using AI. Was it made by someone unbelievably talented, or is it just simply unbelievable?
