Kate is an artist and professor of inclusive research at Rix Inclusive Research Institute at the University of East London, and a founder member of
purpleSTARS.
purpleSTARS are an inclusive research group with and without disabilities/differences who work with art, sensory materials and technology in collaboration with institutions like museums and universities. They employ universal design principles and practice based research co-creating displays, events and engagement opportunities that appeal to all of our senses and lead to our aim for more inclusive research and spaces. purpleSTARS name developed from the colour purple, the colour in the UK associated with the economic power of disability and STARS stands for Sensory Technology Art Resource/Research Specialists.
Kate was also the Principle Investigator of the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) project ‘Interactive multi-sensory objects developed for and by people with learning disabilities’. Find out more at
